Last Day of Driving

Yesterday was another fun-filled day of driving. Luckily, we stopped a disaster before it happened. Somewhere in Western Missouri we stopped for an Iced Coffee and gas and I noticed that the bike rack on the rear bumper of the camper was sagging a little. The welds on the bumper had broken from the extra weight of the bike rack and the bikes. We were probably only about one good bump from losing the bumper, the rack, and both bikes...including AJ's new bike. On a side note, when she bought that bike I accidentally scratched it while putting it on the bike rack.

We drove until about 11:30 p.m. to North Platte, Nebraska. Stopped at Wal-Mart and found a cozy little spot next to all the other Wal-Mart campers. Being that it was the Fourth of July the parking lot was filled with teenagers blasting their radios and shooting off fireworks. What else is there to do in Nebraska but hang out in the Wal-Mart parking lot on our nation's birthday. When the noise died down we were able to get a few hours of sleep and were up and ready to hit the road about 6:30 a.m.

While waiting for AJ to get up and around I decided to sit in the truck, running the GPS, satellite radio, and charge the laptop battery while making this post. I was also thinking of plugging the toaster into our dual power inverter to enjoy a warm Pop Tart when the cigarette lighter fuse blew. I guess all of our technology was a little bit too much for the Dodge's system.

After trip into the Wal-Mart automotive department and $2.47, the fuse is replaced and we're back on the road. 600 more miles and we will be in Cody, WY, our first official stop on this two week adventure.

Update...5 minutes into our drive this morning Nick saw something fly off our camper. After pulling to the side of the road we realized that we lost small window off the top of the camper (because he forgot to tightnen it down after opening it last night!). Nick decided to run back the 1/2 mile to see if he could find it. He did!! Unfortunately it had been hit by a car!

Nick doesn't seem too worried, though. He insists he can fix it with a garbage bag and a little duct tape. We'll have to see...:)

That's it! Thanks for the song link, Dad. I played it and we both sang along. We're in Wyoming now. It is so beautiful! Only 300miles to go.

When you get to Cody, don't miss the Buffalo Bill Museum. Also, they have a gunfight on a side street of one of the tavern/hotels in the downtown area. We loved the rodeo too. Lots of tourist shops to buy western stuff.
I'm sure you are seeing lots of antelope along the way. Made me want to go hunting out there.
Have a safe trip

I'm getting really excited about Cody, especially the rodeo. I've got my cowboy hat ready! Also, I am always ready to do some shopping. We've been seeing a ton of antelope on our drive. Only 38 more miles!!!!

I have got to say this vacation will give the SDC front office enough to "tease" Nick about for a while. Let's hope all the automotive adventures are past. Have 3 things occurred? You know bad stuff happens in 3s.
